How to register at a Chinese hospital as a foreigner: choose the campus first
Identify the hospital, campus and receiving department, and state whether this is a first or return visit. Huiqiao’s international clinic and Nansha’s general outpatient departments have different procedures.
Describe the question you want the department to assess and the language support you need. Contact The Treat for help arranging the appointment; the hospital must confirm the department and available attendance.
Prepare an international outpatient appointment
Nanfang Hospital’s Huiqiao Medical Center has an international outpatient clinic. When requesting an appointment through The Treat, name the clinic and ask about registration, payment and report arrangements for your visit.
The Nansha International Medical Center uses real-name appointments and scheduled arrival. Ask which identity documents and arrival instructions apply to your appointment.
International services can assist with administrative questions. Keep the receiving team’s confirmation with your patient records before arranging transport.
Prepare the identity record before booking
Public hospitals usually need a patient file linked to a passport or other accepted identity document. Use your actual document type; nationality is not determined by language or residence. Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan have separate document arrangements.
Compare the booking name and document number with the identity document you will carry. If you already have a patient record, have renewed your passport or cannot open an old account, ask staff how to link the existing record before creating another. Keep your issued patient number to hand. For spelling, name order or document changes, explain the specific difference to the service centre and ask how to correct it.
Prepare identity, appointment changes and laboratory records
Keep your identity and appointment information together. Ask the international service which registration requirements apply to your visit.
Use the patient’s own identity
Prepare the passport or other document that will be used for registration. If your passport has changed or an older record has a different name, explain the difference before the visit.
Ask for help with appointment changes
Contact The Treat for help arranging or changing the appointment. Check the cancellation and refund conditions before changing your travel plans.
Know the laboratory printout limits
Nansha’s laboratory printers on basement level 1 through floor 4 provide results from the previous six months. The west-side first-floor machines offer 24-hour access. Imaging files and complete historical records require separate collection arrangements.
Save the booking details and ask about arrival
Save confirmation showing the patient, campus, department, date and session. Nansha registration credentials are valid for the named patient and session. Request correction of any identity error before the visit.
Identity registration, a confirmed appointment and arrival reporting are separate steps. Keep the instructions for each with your documents, including any agreed language support.
Keep payment and the next appointment step connected
Before paying, show the cashier the bill and ask whether your foreign card or mobile wallet is accepted for that transaction. Prepare a backup payment method.
When the clinician gives you an order, ask whether to pay first, book a test or go to a service desk. Keep the order and payment references together. If the payment screen fails, check whether your bank or wallet has deducted the money, then ask staff to check the hospital’s payment status to avoid paying twice. For a billing mismatch or refund, ask the hospital which desk will handle it and keep that contact.
Plan report collection before leaving the building
List each expected laboratory result, image file and medical report, with its issue date and collection arrangements. Ask separately about older records or a complete medical record and the formats your clinician at home needs.
A 24-hour printer’s availability does not mean continuous testing or immediate medical review. Ask when your result is expected and how a clinician will explain it. Check patient details and examination dates, and keep original reports with their translations.
Arrange help without sharing the wrong account
Agree who carries the patient’s document, saves the appointment and handles administrative questions. A family relationship does not replace identity verification or permission to assist; use the patient’s own records.
Prepare questions in the patient’s preferred language and ask about consent for assistance. Use the receiving team’s confirmed document channel. An initial administrative enquiry can start without passport scans or full medical records.
Leave with a clear next step
Before departing, ask whether the next action belongs to the patient, a clinic desk, the laboratory or the appointment team. Record any remaining question in plain language: which result is outstanding, how to retrieve it and whether a further appointment needs booking. These planning notes help a companion continue the conversation without guessing.
Keep registration, payment and report-collection answers with the confirmed appointment. Ask the receiving department to resolve unfinished administrative steps and contact The Treat for help arranging any further appointment.

Common questions
Can a passport holder use every self-service registration machine?
Self-service systems may not accept every identity document. Prepare your passport and ask which registration arrangements apply; international services can help clarify the requirements.
Does online pre-verification finish the identity process?
Online pre-verification may still require identity confirmation at the first visit. Bring the document used for the patient record and follow the instructions supplied for your appointment.
Are all reports available from the laboratory printer?
You can print laboratory results from the previous six months through this route. Ask the relevant department about imaging, older records and the timing of each result.
Should I use these directions at another hospital?
Hospitals and departments have different registration and collection arrangements. Use this guide to prepare questions, then follow the receiving team’s confirmed instructions.
Clarify the next registration step
Contact The Treat for help arranging a hospital appointment and registration. State your main question, preferred language and intended hospital if known. Ask for the appropriate document channel before sending private files.
